Bracknell is in the heart of the Thames Valley in the Royal County of Berkshire, England and is a, surprisingly, good place for a short break or business meeting. One major advantage to the business traveller is the fact that Bracknell is roughly 30 miles (about and hours travel) from London and about 11 miles from Reading (You will find other nearby towns listed to the left). Bracknell is known as a "new town" due to the fact that it was designated as such in 1949 when housing for 25,000 people was added.
Bracknell has ample facilities for the businessman with old buildings and new builds. To the right is pictured offices at Arlington Square which offer amazing facilities for the modern business including virtual offices, meeting rooms and broadband facilities.
However Bracknell is also a fantastic place to visit for fun too! There is plenty to do and see and we have given a brief summary below.
Things To Do In Bracknell
Bracknell Shopping:
Today you will find that Bracknell is a thoroughly modern town with great plans for the future. For those who enjoy shopping there is a reasonably large mall / shopping complex in the town centre call "Princess Square". You will find virtually anything you want with a good selection of well known retailers and a variety of specialist shops catering for such things as photography - and, of course, plenty of clothes shops. You will not find parking a problem as Princess Square has it's own multi-storey carpark. Just outside Bracknell's town centre is the Peel Centre which is a retail park housing a selection of well known superstores such as Currys and various DIY stores and a supermarket.
If you prefer a more "rough and ready" style of shopping you should visit the local market which is open both Fridays and Saturdays. There is a reasonable variety of stalls selling their goods in the usual market style (ie very loudly!). The market is a great place to buy your meat, fruit and veg and even bag a few bargains.
Bracknell Nightlife:
The local night life can be described as lively with the usual pubs and night clubs such as The Old Manor and The Bier Kellar. Many of the pubs are in very old buildings and there are several examples of timber framed b ildings. So, if you visit one, please be sure to take care as the ceilings can be low and you stand a good chance of banging your head on low beams! The Public Houses will offer food but there are many restaurants in Bracknell with several offering fine Italian, seafood, american style and English cuisine.
Bracknell Places To Visit & Things To Do:
Bracknell is known as a "Modern Town of Fountains" and, possibly, the most well known fountain is the Water Clock (left) in the town centre. The clock displays the time by spraying the water at regular intervals. Other leisurely pursuits can be enjoyed around the local borough. There are around 80 managed parks and countryside sites and 26 play areas for children. The largest park is the Lilly Hill Park which covers an area of some 23 hectares and can be found to the north east of Bracknell. The park is well worth a visit to see the formal gardens but there are other areas of parkland and woodland.
Bracknell is perfect for the more energetic visitor as it is surrounded by woodland (Bracknell Forest). Swinley Forest has about 2600 acres of woodland and includes Crowthorne Woods.
The list of things to do is endless but includes fishing, walking, cycling, mountain biking and much, much more. For the more sporty there is The Look Out Discovery Centre, Horseshoe Lake Watersports Centre, Coral Reef (waterworld), Bracknell Leaisure Centre, Sandhurst Sports Centre, Edgbarrow Sports Centre and Bracknell SKi Centre.
For a great family day out nothing can beat the experience of a day out at "Go Ape". A real adrenalin fueled high wire forest adventure, it is nearly 10m above the forest floor! It is the perfect place to test your nerves with a network of rope bridges, death slides and trapezes that continue for about a mile across the tops of the trees - great fun.
